The Odyssey

We recently went out of town to see The Odyssey movie, and it was well worth the drive.

We heard it was made for IMAX, so that’s where we went. It was beautifully done, and definitely worth seeing if you enjoy action and mythology.

As homeschoolers, my kids typically read the book, and then watched the movie (if available.) This was definitely a homeschoolers’ dream movie. Lol.

For me, the best part was that I got to go with all of my adult kids. And they actually wanted me there. Watching my favourite people, laughing and enjoying each other’s company, what more can you say.

The story of the Trojan Horse has been passed down for thousands of years because it’s about more than a battle. Whether you’re talking about narcissistic relationships, politicians, business, or everyday life, it’s a reminder that the greatest dangers aren’t always the ones that arrive with force. Sometimes they come disguised as something harmless. It reminded me that paying attention to red flags is wise. I know that would have saved me a lot of heartache in my life.

The water scenes in the movie were especially cool. They made me think about my ancestors, hundreds of years ago, crossing oceans in ships.

MINOR SPOILERS: I don’t have many criticisms, but I thought Holland’s character would make such a weak leader. Odysseus’ shoes were too big to fill. And I wondered why they didn’t have fishing nets on the boats, so they wouldn’t have had to eat those cows! Lol.

The movie kept my attention from beginning to end, and that’s saying something. Popcorn and cotton candy always make a nice touch.

My favorite part, outside of being there with my children, was when the audience applauded at the end!! I absolutely love it when that happens in a movie theatre! Even New Brunswickers can bring it when required. Lol.

Here are a few of the Odyssey books we have in the home right now.
