Anne of Green Gables
This picture is of my actual Anne of Green Gables complete set of eight books. Just a few minutes ago, I arranged them on the well-worn hard-wood floor of my child’s room. The room formerly known as The Dame’s School, where we homeschooled throughout the span of 30 years. My copy of Anne’s House of Dreams pictured here is from 1917.
As a pure-blood Maritimer, I have been an L.M. Montgomery fan ever since I learned to read. So much so, that one of my boys has the middle name Montgomery. This is my life-long favourite series. My favourite book is Rainbow Valley. As a young girl, the dreams in my heart and mind were made from the idealism of Anne’s family, (along with Maria’s new-found family in the Sound of Music.)
I read these books aloud to my children many times over the years. I recently started reading chapters from the first book, Anne of Green Gables, out loud every week to a beloved group of people at the seniors residence. We just finished Chapter 2, and I was already reminded of the manifesting mentality of Anne. Her vivid imagination truly did create a wonderful life. That’s what inspired me as a child, and does to this day. Even though I am many decades older, I still believe making dreams come true is possible.
